Should You Select Fat Transfer or Implants for Your Buttock-Shaping Procedure?
With swimsuit season fast approaching, many of us are trying to slim down, tone up, and tighten those parts of our bodies that can cause a crisis of confidence. Diet and exercise, though, are not always enough to add curve or contour to your shape. If you are dissatisfied with the shape or size of your buttocks, for example, talk to your plastic surgeon about the procedures that can help to enhance your self-confidence and existing assets. He or she can walk you through how a buttock augmentation is performed and the different methods for doing so.
Fat Transfer
One popular option for enhancing buttock shape is the use of fat transfer. During this procedure, fat is harvested from an area of the body with excess fat, such as the abdomen, using liposuction. The harvested fat is then prepared and injected into the procedure site where you would like a fuller appearance. Your body will naturally reabsorb some of the transferred fat, so a portion of the harvested fat will be stored safely for use during subsequent visits.
After a fat transfer procedure, patients are advised to avoid sitting or putting weight on their buttocks for five days. Buttock contouring using fat transfer is ideal for patients who are concerned about their body rejecting implants, those who want a less invasive procedure, and those who have excess fat which can be transferred.
Implants
Buttock implants can also be used to enhance the size, shape and overall appearance of your body’s contour. The silicone implants that are used in buttock augmentations are formed into solid shapes, providing a natural feel and appearance. The procedure to place implants takes around two hours; a small incision is made between the buttocks before the implants are placed beneath the gluteal muscles. The incision is then closed using sutures.
After a buttock implant procedure, you will be prescribed pain medication and bandages to reduce discomfort during recovery. You will not be able to participate in strenuous activities for about four weeks. This procedure provides long-lasting, natural-looking results that can enhance both your buttock shape and confidence.
